Glass has unlimited appeal for me as fine art. There is so much excitement in the use of color, layer upon layer, and in the effects that can be created by adding layers of color and texture, that I am constantly challenged to try new techniques in the creation of my pieces. I design the stands that hold all of the table-top pieces and have them custom made by a local welder (I prefer to think of him as a blacksmith), and there is now a good selection of hardware for hanging glass art as well. On some of the pieces there are separate layers that are not fused together to emphasize the three-dimensional aspect of the pieces. I am happy to create commissioned pieces, working with clients to select color palettes and discuss design ideas, as it gives me an opportunity to combine my long career as an interior designer with my new career as a glass artist.
